Official Website of the City of Gatesville

Welcome to Gatesville, Texas!  In 2001, the Texas Legislature designated Gatesville the "Spur Capital of Texas".  The Coryell County Museum in Gatesville is home to the Loyd and Madge Mitchell Collection of about 10,000 pairs of spurs, thought to be the largest such collection in the world.  What do Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Pancho Villa have in common?  Both of them have a pair of their spurs on display at the Coryell County Museum! Please explore our website for information about our City government and services available for our residents.

Public Notices and News Items

Boil Water Rescind Notice

On February 28, 2018 the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) required our public water system Gatesville Regional Water System, PWS ID 0500002, to issue a Boil Water Notice (BWN) to inform our customers along and east of the intersection of State Hwy 36 and US Hwy 84 that due to the presence of contaminants or an interruption in service, water from our system must be boiled prior to consumption.

Our system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore adequate pressure, disinfectant levels, and/or bacteriological quality and has provided TCEQ with testing results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling as of March 4, 2018.

If you have questions, contact Berry Mansell at 254-986-8281.

If a customer wishes to reach TCEQ, they may call 512-239-4691.

2018 Warrant Roundup

Gatesville Municipal Court, working with the Gatesville Police Department, is actively participating in the 2018 Great Texas Warrant Roundup, a statewide program which targets thousands of defendants in Texas and gives them the opportunity to voluntarily resolve their outstanding Class C warrants without being arrested.  A list of local warrants is available here.  If you or someone you know is on the list, arrest can be avoided by contacting the Municipal Court located at 110 N 8th Street, or calling 254.865.2227.

Annual Local Debt Report

House Bill 1378, passed during the 2015 legislative session, requires every city to annually report various figures related to the city’s amount of debt. A city can satisfy the reporting requirement in one of two ways: (1) compile the requisite debt information in a self-created report that is posted to the city’s website; or (2) complete the state comptroller’s online debt reporting form and either: (a) upload it to the comptroller’s website; or (b) post to the city’s website. Please be careful with fats, oil and grease!

  • Never put FOG (Fats, Oil,Grease) down the drain! It can clog your pipes and/or do costly damage to our City sanitary sewer system!
  • Even small amounts of FOG will collect over time to form a large clog!
  • Wipe grease from pans and plates with a paper towel and dispose of in the trash!
  • Greasy food scraps go in the trash, not the sink or garbage disposal!

HB 1643 prohibits drone usage over critical infrastructure

A drone regulation bill to designate critical infrastructure and restrict drone flight over them has been signed by Gov. Greg Abbott and will go into effect on Sept. 1. House Bill 1643 lists critical infrastructure facilities over which drones are not allowed to fly. The list includes energy and telecommunications facilities, any of which are completely enclosed by a fence or other physical barrier that is obviously designed to exclude intruders, or if clearly marked with a sign or signs that are posted on the property, are reasonably likely to come to the attention of intruders, and indicate that entry is forbidden.  (read more)
